My Thoughts:

I have really been into fairy tale retellings lately and this was a fun one. I loved the contemporary setting and all of the nods throughout the story to the original. The faith was good, and I really enjoyed how much Ella felt God's presence when she was out in nature, because I also feel it strongly there. I think creation is such a great example of what an amazing God we have. I loved how Chaz did little things to support Ella and let her know that he cared for her. It wasn't all about big grand gestures, but consistency in being there. I love how we got to see them at church several times, and to get a tiny glimpse into what the sermon was about. That was a fun touch.

I definitely enjoyed the art aspect as well. It added some interesting twists on the details and how the fairy tale aspects played out. I think sometimes we can downplay the gifts God has given us, I know I sure do, so I resonated with Ella in that way. Yet our confidence comes from Him and knowing those gifts He gave us and that we can use to glorify Him. Wonderful story and I am excited to dive into the next in the series.

This was a solid four stars for me.

Quote Time:

"Sometimes, God uses these in-between moments to prepare us for whatever is coming next. Just like these seeds I planted in the spring took several weeks before they sprouted and grew tall. And then it took several more weeks before they gave me any veggies. If they had rushed, the tomatoes or peppers or pumpkins wouldn't have been worth eating. They had to ripen and mature. Maybe God's letting you ripen."

Yes, and Amen. So many times, the little things in our lives are where we are being most sanctified.

Meet the Author

Amy R. Anguish (About Me is from her website)

I’m married to my husband of twenty-one years. We met in college at Freed-Hardeman University and married after I had graduated. I told him I wanted my Bachelors before I got my MRS. I majored in English, not to be able to teach, but because I knew from middle school on that I wanted to be a writer. And here I am. Together, my husband I have two beautiful children who keep us hopping.

I grew up a preacher’s kid, moving every few years. I’ve never lived anywhere longer than six years. By the time I got married, I had lived in six different towns, seven if you count the few months we lived with my grandparents between jobs one time, and five/six different states. Since marriage, I’ve added another state and five more towns. It’s not for everyone, but it definitely makes it easier for me to make friends and adjust to new situations.

I am a crafter. I love crochet, drawing and painting, sewing, quilting, needlework, and sometimes jewelry-making. I’m sure there’s probably a few other things I’ve tried over the years, but those are the ones I’ve done with much success.

I am also a preschool teacher and Bible class teacher, which lets me use my story-telling and crafter skills in other ways while sharing God’s love with those who are already so like Him. In the last few years, I’ve added content editing and tax preparation to my jobs too. I’m always busy, but oh, so blessed.

I hope in all my creative endeavors to glorify God, but especially in my writing. I want my stories to show that while Christians face real struggles, it can still work out for good.
